Digital Art - Surreal Party

Hi there,

Some days I can get no inspiration...
I'm doing all the boring and mechanical work (such as marketing) without a problem, but when I need to be creative I just can't think of anything.

To break this barrier, I tried to do an experiment, to draw automatically things and ideas that pop up in my head, without thinking too much.

I was adding item after item, and suddenly it was easier to continue. The muse came back!

The result was weird, refreshing and surprising...

This technique is like dreaming - sometimes makes no sense, sometimes confusing, but always makes you think.
I was so happy with that, and certainly will practice again this technique very soon.

Earth Day

Hi there!

Tomorrow (22/04/2012) is "Earth Day".
Needless to say how important is to take care of our planet and the environment. After all, we live here, our children will live here... and who wants to live in a toxic and filthy house?

To increase the awareness of this crucial topic I'm posting here some designs that I've created during the years, and are related to this important day.

  • Sketched robots holding hands, surrounding earth. This design tells us to take care of our planet as well as each other.

Take care of our planet AND each other

  • Nature treasures so much beauty, wild life and colors, you got to love it!

  • As the years go by, we understand more and more the benefits of bicycle riding. it reduces pollution, traffic, keeps us healthier and it is fun :)

  •  Nature can create some beautiful images. A capture of crystal clear water inside a grotto, turned out to be a beautiful and artistic abstract.

Remember! "Earth Day" is an important day, but it's just a date. What we should really need to do, is to  celebrate and to take care of our planet (our home...) everyday!

Pop Art - Retro Style Hi Top Converse All Star

Hi there,

Maybe some of you have noticed that I'm very fond of 70s-80s retro style items. It reminds me my childhood and more innocent times. This time I wanted to make a tribute to the all time retro style sneaker - the classic navy (blue) hi top Converse All Star (Chuck Taylor). Though this shoe is almost 100 years old, it always reminds me the 80s, it was extremely popular in that decade.

I decided to make a Vector Art image of the sneaker, and to use an orange background to enhance the retro feel. The image is semi realistic.

I Just love this sneaker and wanted to show my appreciation :)

Because it's such a popular-culture icon, it deserves its own Pop Art portrait! Like any other famous personality, heck it is more popular than Marilyn Monroe (I assume :)).

So I honored the sneaker with this:

Yeah... I really like those shoes :)

Purchase this Tshirt or other products with this design

Order Your Customized Vector Art Portrait!

Hi there!

Many people have asked me if I could create a customized Vector Art portrait for them (or as a surprise for a friend).

Vector Art portraits looks like that (click to enlarge) :

Vector Art is a technique of using geometrical patterns such as lines, polygons, curves etc. In order to create a picture or an image, the artist needs to pay attention and recreate, by hand, every shade, tone and detail of the original image. This process is quite challenging and takes sometimes 6 hours or more. check out this video.

I was looking for some pricing details on the web, and I discovered that the cost of one portrait is between $150-$200 , just for the illustration.

I decided to create those customized vector portraits for $100 (one head shot, for a limited promotional period).

It is a great and original present for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings - you name it!

If you are interested, contact me via IBadishi@hotmail.com or via my Facebook fan page. Send me a good quality photo (of yourself, girlfriend, father, pet etc.) within 3 days I'll send back a draft with a paypal payment request. After the payment, you'll receive the Vector Art file in various popular extensions (psd, jpg, png, ai) and you'll be able to do with it whatever you want! A canvas is a great idea!

Birthday Surprise Portrait

If you have questions on the subject or just want to know more details, feel free to contact me.

Vector Art - The Girl With The Pinkish Hair

Hi there!

I think I'm in love!

Well... at least I was astonished with the beautiful portrait of Charlotte Free made by Terry Richardson.
Richardson is controversial fashion photographer. His work includes aspiring models, adult movie stars, politicians, singers and more. You should take a look at his tumblr blog, it is quite interesting! (Be aware that some of his work contains nudity and sexual innuendos).

Anyway, back to Charlotte Free  - A young model , with a weird appearance and ever pink hair. Take a look at her photo.

Charlotte Free by Terry Richardson

Beautiful isn't it?

Well... I tried to recreate this portrait, using my new Illustrator CS5, I was really trying to give the portrait a full attention and respect, and to preserve her beauty. It was quite enjoyable too.

I hope that Charlotte will like my Vector portrait of her :) It's not like the original photo, but still...

Well, that's it for now,

Photography - A Wise Use of Filter Apps

Hi there,

In previous posts I've mentioned that the whole filter apps trend is overused. Many times even the most beautiful filter cannot save the picture from being boring. As I mentioned before, we must maintain the basic photography rules, and the most important : the composition.

When we know for sure that we have a well composed photo, we can use the filters in order to add more ambiance. Remember, we will only use a filter if it would give an added value to our photo, otherwise it might even ruin it.

Here are some photos that I took yesterday, before and after the filter app. I use Pixlr-o-Matic, it's a great app! (What about Instagram? nothing, I just hate the buzz around it :P)

The Original - Black and White

The original photo was shot in black and white. The pose on the couple, their eyes and the hug are creating a good composition. If you isolate them from the rest of the room, you can really see a 'moment' there. After I adjusted a little bit the original photo in Photoshop, The result was this:

Photoshopped - Cropped and Sharpened

Better already! Wasn't too hard. To complete the atmosphere, I decided to add a metallic filter, just to make the picture more special.

Filtered

It was just like adding a little bit of pepper to a dish.

Most of the pictures yesterday were shot in Black and White, I especially wanted to create a 70s atmosphere in the next picture. In this one and several other that I took, I was going back to my childhood in the 70s. I was trying to reproduce the happiness, the carefree reality and the innocence in a 2012 child.
Take a look:

The Original - Black and White

This picture says it all. The child's eyes, the smiles and the general atmosphere were perfect for me. No Photoshop was needed there. I decided to run some filters, to find out if I can add more 70s/vintage atmosphere. Take a look:

Filtered

I really love the result. The picture is definitely more special, and unforgettable.

Last one was kind of a joke, I used a wide angle to shoot my jeans and the All Star sneakers. It was silly, I know, but I liked it anyway.

Original

The perspective on this picture was cool, and of course you already know (or not) that I like the classic Converse All Star . So... in the 70s atmosphere roll, I filtered this one too. Here is the result:

Filtered

Kept it simple and silly in this photo :)

Well, that's it for now. I hope that you enjoyed the post (please share it if you like it:)).

Use the filters apps cleverly!

Feel free to send me comments with links to your filtered pictures, I will be happy to see them :)

Digital Art - Black Dog (my first illustrator creation)

Hi !

As a photoshop user, I am used to do some retouching to my photos, as well as creating digital art. Just learned by myself how to use it, and improved over time. Lately I've been creating more and more digital art, and I wanted to try a more flexible tool, that would help me to improve my art. I checked out Adobe Illustrator, and to my surprise, you can download the official version and use the full and latest release for 30 days. Now, I was so excited and wanted to work with it right away, but... I realized that I have to learn a lot of new features and elements. Luckily my photoshop experience helped a little bit, but yet... there was a lot to learn, I felt like a beginner, it was like learning a new language, oh well...

Been searching youtube and found this series of tutorials for beginners that are helpful and funny, if you are doing your first steps on illustrator, you should check it out... Jream Tutorials

My first attempt to create something in illustrator, was rather good for a first try. Take a look at my previous post and find the black dog. I decided to vectorize it! just for fun.

Take a look :

I was happy with the result so I decided to print it on a shirt :)

Take a look :

I like this shirt! it looks like a dog with a lion complex :)

That's it for today, I'll keep you posted with my new creations very soon.
As always you are welcome to visit my online store or my portfolio on "The Untapped Source".

Have a wonderful day !

Photography - Rock, Nature and Hell's Angels

Hi !

This Saturday was a lovely day, you could really feel the spring. The sun came out but it wasn't too hot. Me and other two friends (also photographers) decided to visit a small rock gathering, arranged by our favorite radio show (on 88fm), in a forest. We decided to go there without any expectations, bring some beers and just to chill, hoping for some "Kodak" moments.

Well, to our surprise we arrived pretty early, we we're kind of disappointed, but everything turned around just fine. A bunch of heavy Harley Davidsons surprised us with their unmistakable roar, and some typical Hell's Angels look a likes appeared. On the other hand some young kids and innocent teenagers popped in with their acoustic guitars. It was chaotic and lovely, different kind of people, different ages, but they all shared the same passion : Rock Music!

For us, it was a great photo opportunity.

Here are some photos from the event. Click on the photos to enlarge.

Chaotic but fun :)
